Rev. Jennifer Jue
On July 1st Calvary is pleased to welcome our new administrative pastor Rev. Jennifer Jue. The following is a biography that PastorJennifer has provided:
Pastor Jennifer Jue begins her new appointment with Brookside United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and Calvary United Methodist Church (as supervising pastor) on July 1, 2020.
Pastor Jennifer completed her Master of Divinity degree (2006) and Master of Spiritual Direction and Evangelism (2007) at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. She was ordained in the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. She has served as senior pastor of rural, city, and small town churches: served Napoleon UMC from 2007-2013, then Wayne First UMC from 2013-2014, and then Oxford UMC from 2014 to June 2020 (also including Thomas UMC in 2019-2020).
Before being called to ordained ministry, Pastor Jennifer’s first career was in education. She taught Chinese bilingual education at Franklin Elementary School in Oakland, California. After earning her Doctorate in Education degree, she taught Multicultural Education/Social Studies in teacher education programs at Stanford University, New College of California (San Francisco CA), and Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo MI).
In the Michigan Conference UMC, she served on the Bishop’s Initiative on Children and Poverty for 7 years. She has a passion for children impacted by poverty and improving their education, health and wellness. She is also committed to racial justice, and is a member of the Michigan Conference UMC’s Committee on Asian American Ministries (COAAM) and Committee on Hispanic/Latino Ministries. These committees work on justice issues related to ethnicity, language, and culture with ethnic local churches and pastors. She also served on the Board of Ordained Ministry for 9 years, and likes to mentor ministry candidates and new local pastors. Pastor Jennifer Jue is of Chinese American heritage, and has two adult children, Heather and Jonathan Jue-Wong. Her interests include reading (ethnic and cultural historical fiction, biographies, theology and social issues), sewing projects, and traveling to interesting places.
