The Spirit that is Zion
Sending Forth
At the end of Jesus earthly ministry, Matthew reports that he gave The Great Commission,
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look. I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.” (Matt 28:19-20)
These words are very appropriate for us as the people of the Zion Church come to the end of our time together as an organized United Methodist Church. Our time together worshiping and serving our community has helped us grow in faith and our dedication. We continue to be disciples of Christ and are directed by that commission regardless of what church we may attend or wherever we are.
There is a spirit that is Zion: A spirit of caring for others and for the community. That spirit is reflected in setting a bench at fairgrounds in memory of a leader who has gone on ahead of us. A spirit that lifts each other up in prayer even as issues divide us. It even extends to family and friends of neighbors. It reaches out to people of Calvary Church and the former Pleasant Lake Church.
I celebrate that spirit of Zion and encourage us to continue to let the love of Christ show through our lives both in words and actions.
Blessings of Christ through Zion be with each of you.
